“I wanted the character to be like a popular culture jukebox. I like the idea of a character who’s a survivor. And he’s survived because he’s adapted. He’s someone who has his finger on the pulse the whole time. He’s tapped into popular culture all the time.”

“I watched a few things, but I also wanted to let my imagination riff on whatever was going on at the time. And not stop myself from quoting things. You kind of have to with a part like that. We want you to come in and explode. The scripted stuff was great and it was the platform for me to play off of,” he concludes.

The soundtrack to Lisa Cholodenko’s upcoming Sundance hit The Kids Are All Right has been announced on Facebook. The 17-song soundtrack is a mix of classics from David Bowie, Joni Mitchell and Leon Russell and current favourites, including MGMT, Deerhoof, Uh Huh Her and CSS.

The film by Cholodenko, who directed critically acclaimed indie films High Art and Laurel Canyon, stars Julianne Moore and Annette Bening as a same sex couple whose sperm bank children decide to search for their biological father.

The film also co-stars Mia Wasikowska, who was last seen in the title role of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

David Bowie has reportedly given the go-ahead for a musical based around his hits.

Director Peter Schaufuss is believed to have been given the singer’s backing for a version of Bowie’s cult sci-fi film ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’.

The production will weave the singer’s hits based around the storyline of the 1976 flick.

Schaufuss plans to launch the musical in his native Denmark this autumn, reports The Sun.

Abba’s ‘Mamma Mia’, Madness’ ‘Our House’ and Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ have already proven to be big hits in London’s West End.

David Bowie‘s son Duncan Jones has directed hotly-tipped new science fiction movie ‘MOON’, set to be released this summer.

Already an accomplished film-maker, Jones – known in his youth as Zowie Bowie – recruited ‘Skins’ actress Kaya Scodelario to feature in the film, his first feature-length movie.

Sam Rockwell also features, while Kevin Spacey appears as the voice of a computer. The space thriller was produced by Stuart Fenegan and Trudie Styler, wife of Sting.

‘MOON’ sees Rockwell’s character as a lone worker on a moonbase set up to extract fuel for fusion-powered generators back on Earth.

Jones said of the movie in a statement: “People who appreciate science fiction want the best for the world, but they understand that there is an education to be had by investigating the worst of what might happen.

“That’s why ‘Blade Runner’ was so brilliant; it used the future to make us look at basic human qualities from a fresh perspective. Empathy. Humanity. How do you define these things? I wanted to address those questions.”

A firm release date for ‘MOON’ is yet to be finalised

David Bowie to release ‘Space Oddity’ multi-tracks to celebrate moon landing ‘Space Oddity EP’ gives fans the chance to remix their own versions of the song

Released on July 20 – 40 years to the day that Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon – the ‘Space Oddity EP’ consists of four variations of the track. When fans purchase the EP they will also receive the original eight stems/multi-tracks for the track for free.

They will then be able to remix the song through their own software, or through iKlax software).

David Bowie has denied reports he is to play at next year’s Glastonbury.

A report yesterday (November 27) said that Bowie was considering an offer to play the June bash, but the singer has now confirmed through Davidbowie.com that there is “absolutely no substance” in the story.

Under a post titled ‘Rumours and lies and stories they made up…Part 386′, Davidbowie.com states:

“The Mail Online has posted a piece suggesting that David Bowie is “considering an offer” to appear at next year’s 40th anniversary Glastonbury Festival. Sadly, there is absolutely no substance to this story.”

The news comes in the same week that Michael Eavis confirmed that U2 are to headline the Friday night (June 25) of next year’s Glastonbury.

Yesterday, TV host Jonathan Ross Tweeted that Muse’s Matt Bellamy had told him the band are \”probably\” playing the bash, although this has not yet been confirmed by either Glastonbury or the band themselves

A user posting under the name ‘David Bowie‘ has left a message on social networking website Twitter saying that the star is recording new material in Berlin.

In the late ’70′s Bowie record three of his most popular albums – ‘Low’, ‘Heroes’ and ‘Lodger’ – in the city. The albums are now collectively known as his ‘Berlin Trilogy’.

The Twitter post says: “Cheers from a snowy Berlin! Working on some new material!”

However, the comment is yet to be officially confirmed to actually have been written or authorised by Bowie himself.

David Bowie’s last studio album was 2003′s ‘Reality’ – a heart complaint then forced him to abandon his world tour in 2004.

In 2008, he sang backing vocals on Scarlett Johansson’s album of Tom Waits covers, ‘Anywhere I Lay My Head’.

David Bowie has lent his voice to the forthcoming debut album by Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson.

Bowie provides vocals on two songs on the record – ‘Fannin’ Street’ and ‘Falling Down’.

The album, entitled ‘Anywhere I Lay My Head’, features ten Tom Waits covers. It is set for release in the USA in May.

Billboard reports that Bowie met Johansson at a party, where she asked him to contribute to the album.
